A couple of weeks ago I led a time of quiet reflective prayer online, and offered the picture above for people to reflect on1, along with these beautiful promises from God’s Word:
Isaiah 46 vs 3 – 4: ‘Listen to me … you whom I have held since your birth, and have carried since you were born. Even to your old age and grey hairs: I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.
And from Jeremiah 31 vs 3: The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: “I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”
In the Silence of this quiet space, I too reflected on this picture and verses and wrote the following:
I am held in Jesus’ hands
Loved with everlasting love
Held by grace – loved without boundaries.
Held by mercy – loved infinitely.
Held by the King of Kings – loved as His beloved daughter.
Safe, and secure, but never squashed.
Held tightly, but with freedom and room to grow.
To grow into the image of the One who holds me so firmly, yet so gently.
Held securely – loved into freedom.
Held safely – and loved into wholeness
Sheltered – but with space to stretch out and rest.
Safe and secure – and invited to be.
To be – all that He has made me to be.
To be – just to breathe and to be still,
To be.
Knowing I am sheltered in the cleft of the rock
Covered by His wings
Held in everlasting arms
Safe, warm, loved and secure –
Secure in the absolute truth that God is God,
And God is good. Always. And in all circumstances.
I am known, seen and loved
By the One who is I Am –
In whom, I am complete and whole -and wholly His.
And who holds me, always, in His perfect, scarred, yet beautiful
Hands of Grace.
Where do you need to be held in Hands of grace today? What is Jesus’ invitation to you from this picture? Why not grab a cuppa of your favourite brew, and spend some time with this picture, with the verses, with Jesus – and listen to His heart for you as He holds you close in His hands of grace and love.
